  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder ((optional))
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (2 ounces or 4 tablespoons) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg (, room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk (, room temperature)
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • Mint Buttercream Frosting
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (, sifted)
  • 1 cup (8 ounces or 16 tablespoons) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 6-8 drops green food coloring
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
